History and Background

Medinet Filmhire was founded in 2002 by Dr. Anthony MacDermott following the demise of Larsen and Laurens - which he had been supplying with props and material from his own collection on a consultative basis. Initially storing material in Kings Cross, most of the items were moved to Acton; first to Dollis Hill and then to Park Royal in order to allow visits and a more direct relationship with film prop buyers - each move being designed to assist viewing. Services available have now been extended to provide absolute authenticity to the professional film-maker: including the provison of expert on-set medical advice, pre-production planning, photographs and text-books of procedures to assist filming.

In the last six years, Medinet has provided props for major film and television projects, including:

  • Messiah III
  • The Life and Death of Peter Sellers
  • Hawking
  • The Bourne Ultimatum

Dr Anthony MacDermott

Having qualified in Animal Physiology, University of Oxford in 1973, he won a Medical Research Council scholarship to research into cardiovascular physiology. He then went on to complete his medical training at Radcliffe Infirmary, Oxford and qualified in medicine in 1979. After seven years in Acute medicine in a variety of hospitals, Dr MacDermott took the Diploma in Aviation medicine course at the Institute of Aviation Medicine at Farnborough, and has since specialised in moving critically ill patients by air.

Dr MacDermott has always been passionate about film, and has gathered together one of the largest private collections of medical and scientific equipment for the purpose of accurate portrayal of the medical environment on film.
