Other Services
We can assist throughout all stages of production - from the script approval stage, through pre-production, set construction and shooting to final edit - with services that can be integrated into our overall hire and supply arrangements with separate billing and cost codings.
Script Preview
We can review scripts to identify scientific or medical errors in terminology, procedures or factual accuracy. Many scripts are written by non-experts in our field and contain understandable mistakes which if not caught can become uncorrectable later in the production process - with a high risk that the final product will be flawed by being unrealistic and the mistake will be detected by general viewers.
In one instance, a script called for a character to drop dead within minutes of consuming a named poison, one that actually takes at least a day to work. A simple change of name would sort this out, or a change in the action could be sufficient.
We have resources to review both medical and scientific scenes and to comment on biological, chemical or medical matters. If required, we can also make suggestions as to how the scene may be improved in the light of the science involved to produce more realism.
Pre-production
Our website is a resource that contains much information and is free to use to look at images of over 1,000 stock items, seek out alternatives, devices from appearance or name and look at standard scenarios. We can enhance this information with the supply of historic or contemporary images to assist in set design.
For example, in one pre-production planning discussion we provided a production with advertising images of medical content from a 1960s' medical journal to help with selection of items for various scenes.
Complete lists of props appropriate to a given set are available from the website, and we can hone these lists down to take into account budget and priorities derived from a particular location. As we have had experience with a number of locations in common use for various type of scenes, we can assist by blocking out the arrangement of items onto the location or set, identify practical issues such as electrical supply or special needs such as suction or gas under pressure. For camera and shot planning, we can offer specific knowledge and experience of issues related to an item, such as how camera-friendly a display is, what information is relevant, how long it can be active, what audio effects are relevant and so on.
On Set Attendance
Some equipment can be complex to set up and activate properly, or scenes may require complex movements in line with medical or theatre procedures. We can attend set-up days to advise, place items and even be there during shooting days to maintain specific items or to demonstrate practical procedures, actions or processes to directors, production assistants, actors, and crew.
